Los Angeles House Of Ruth

Los Angeles, CA · Los Angeles County · Human Services

The primary goal of Los Angeles House of Ruth (LAHR) is to empower women to move from abuse and dependency to independence and success, providing temporary and bridge housing for homeless families, 80% of whom are victims of domestic violence.

LAHR provides emergency shelter and permanent supportive/transitional housing for homeless women and families, most fleeing domestic violence. Services include case management, legal assistance, therapy and parent advocacy, childcare, food and nutrition education, and aftercare support after clients move into permanent housing. Operating since 1978, LAHR runs multiple houses and reports a 95% success rate placing clients into permanent housing; the majority of clients are women of color.
