Crete Academy delivers an educational program to students in TK-6th grade who are homeless and living in poverty, meeting their physical, mental, and emotional needs while developing strong character and critical thinking skills so each child is prepared for college and beyond.
Crete Academy is a nonprofit TK-6 charter school in South Central Los Angeles founded by social-justice entrepreneur Hattie Mitchell in 2017 to serve students experiencing homelessness and their families. Programs include a college-preparatory curriculum, the Crete Enrichment Program, a Gifted and Talented (GATE) track, and the Harmony Program, a research-based wellness initiative ensuring students receive proper nutrition and physical, mental, and emotional care, including an on-staff therapist and family housing-resource support. The school operates two South LA campuses serving roughly 350 students combined.
