Al Wooten Jr Youth Center

A neighborhood approach to the revitalization and empowerment of a community in crisis, providing a safe and nurturing environment committed to good citizenship and academic excellence.

Founded in 1990 by Myrtle Faye Rumph in honor of her son Al Wooten Jr., who was killed in a drive-by shooting, the Wooten Center is a South Los Angeles youth center offering tuition-free hybrid after-school and summer programs for students in grades 3-12. Programs include online tutoring, homework help, computer classes, recreational activities, and field trips, serving over 300 students annually with the goal of grade-level proficiency, high school graduation, and college/career readiness.
