African Communities Public Health Coalition

Formed in response to the growing challenges of mental illness in African immigrant and African-descendant communities, ACPHC advances a culturally-centered, African-centered approach to mental health care and service delivery, alongside immigration support and community leadership development.

African Communities Public Health Coalition (ACPHC) is a Los Angeles nonprofit promoting health, wellness, and equity for African immigrant and African-descendant communities. It addresses the lack of culturally competent outreach and mental-health services in these communities, offering case management, culturally suitable immigration assistance for African-born and Caribbean migrants, and leadership-development and outreach/education programs that reduce stigma around mental illness. Its 'Let's Do It!' Youth Mental Health Ambassador Campaign engages ages 13-24 in peer-led advocacy through art workshops, wellness retreats, and educational forums. The coalition also participates in a tobacco-control collaborative (KOLS) addressing health disparities in LA County.
