A 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports disabled military veterans and first responders, and their families, at no cost, by helping them train their own dogs as service dogs. In-person training is offered in Southern California; support is nationwide.
Veterans Canine Intelligence Academy (VETSCIA) helps disabled veterans and first responders train their own dogs as service dogs, free of charge, and helps locate a dog for those who do not have one. Free weekly classes are held Thursdays and Sundays at 10:00 AM at Baker Ranch Community Park in Lake Forest, covering obedience, public transportation, AKC Canine Good Citizen testing, public access, alert tasks, ADA service dog rules and family education. The academy also helps with Veterans Administration benefit issues, partners with the Veterans Legal Institute of Orange County on landlord-tenant and employment issues related to service dogs, and connects families with free household items. Residents can volunteer through an online form.
