CDU is a federally designated Historically Black Graduate Institution and one of only four historically Black medical colleges in the US, offering programs through its College of Medicine, College of Science and Health, and Mervyn M. Dymally College of Nursing. Beyond academics, CDU runs community-facing health services in South LA including the OASIS Clinic (HIV specialty medical care), Drew CARES (free rapid HIV testing), and the Kedren Street Medicine Team (free health screenings and vaccinations delivered directly in the community), alongside a partner APLA Health clinic on the CDU/MLK campus offering low- and no-cost primary care, dental, and behavioral health services regardless of ability to pay.
