Food Forward fights hunger and prevents food waste by rescuing fresh surplus produce, connecting this abundance with people experiencing food insecurity, and inspiring others to do the same.

Founded in 2009, Food Forward recovers surplus fruits and vegetables that would otherwise go to waste and donates them to hunger relief agencies. Its programs include the Backyard Harvest Program (volunteer picks from residential fruit trees), the Farmers Market Recovery Program, and the Wholesale Recovery Program at the Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Market. Recovered produce is sorted and distributed through its Produce Pit Stop warehouse; as of 2025 the organization has recovered over 500 million pounds of produce serving Southern California and beyond.
