To promote literacy by educating the public about the social and economic costs of illiteracy, advocating for policies and programs that strengthen literacy in schools and communities, and helping get books and learning materials into the hands of parents and educators.
Coalition for Literacy is a Torrance, CA nonprofit that advocates for literacy policy at the state and federal level and distributes books and learning materials to families and educators. Its signature program, 'Read to Run,' rewards 3rd- and 4th-grade students who complete a 12-week reading challenge with running shoes, incentivizing childhood reading.
